Medical Liability Reform

2007 Long Session Recap: House Bill 1671 -Voluntary Arbitration - passed the General Assembly in May 2007, becoming the first bill on tort reform to be adopted in the last four years. It includes a cap on total damages, economic and non-economic, for cases where both parties voluntarily agree to this arbitration option. The NCMS sees this measure as the first step toward the more comprehensive liability reform that is so desperately needed by the physicians of our state.
